This exploratory study investigates how Scienze della Formazione Primaria students perceive and use AI in their academic path, and to what extent they envisage its use in their future teaching practice. Specific attention is devoted to the anxiety students express towards AI, articulated in the fear of professional replacement and the concern of losing personal competencies. The study, conducted on a sample of university students, adopts a mixed methods approach integrating quantitative and qualitative data, to examine AI uses, professional projections and students’ emotional experiences. Preliminary findings provide a picture of students’ positioning, supporting pedagogical reflection on teacher education within a horizon in which AI acts as pedagogical support rather than as a substitute for the teacher.

Keywords

Artificial Intelligence; Teacher education; Anxiety.

Bibliografia

Carlomagno, N., Vadalà, V., & Ricciardi, A. (2026).
